Ifectopic pregnancyis treated surgically instead of medically, laparoscopy is the surgical procedure most often indicated. In most cases, an incision is made in the tube, called a salpingostomy, and the tissue is not sewn shut. This is because letting the tissue close itself can minimize the risk of further scarring, i.e.; in order to decrease the risk of future ectopicpregnancydue to scarring. If the tube is severely damaged or a woman is medically unstable, other more extensive types of procedures may be performed.
