Morgellons Disease: Symptoms & Signs

Morgellons diseaseis an uncommon delusional disorder that leads to the belief that one has parasites or foreign material moving in, or coming out of, the skin. The condition is most common in Caucasian women between the ages of 35 and 50, and an association with development ofhypothyroidismhas been described in those with the condition.

Signs and symptoms of Morgellons disease include complaints of

  • skinitching,
  • burning, or
  • feeling as if something is crawling beneath the skin.

They also often describe seeing what appears to be fibers, threads, hair, or fuzz coming out of lesions on their skin. Scratching may result in skinrashesor sores. Other associated symptoms can include
