Pulmonary hypertensionis elevated pressure in the pulmonary circulation (the arteries that carry blood from theright ventricleof the heart to thelungsto receive oxygen).

Signs and symptoms of pulmonaryhypertensionincludeshortness of breath, fast heart rate, rapidbreathing,dizziness,fatigue, and difficulty breathing with exertion, leading to an inability toexercise. Other associated symptoms can include achronic cough,chest pain, and a sensation of chest pressure.

Causes of pulmonary hypertension

Pulmonaryhypertensionmay occur without apparent cause or it may be due to other conditions. Conditions that can cause pulmonaryhypertensioninclude certain medications,lupus, infections,liver disease, diseases of the heart valves,blood clotsin the lung, andchronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).
