USES:Reserpine is used with or without other medications to treathigh blood pressure(hypertension). Loweringhigh blood pressurehelps preventstrokes,heart attacks, and kidney problems. It works by decreasing certain substances in the body (such as norepinephrine). This causes the blood vessels to relax so that blood can flow more easily and also slows theheartrate. HOW TO USE:Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually 1 to 2 times daily or as directed by your doctor.The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than prescribed. The risk of serious side effects may be increased.Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this medication. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. SIDE EFFECTS:Drowsiness,dizziness,tiredness,nausea,vomiting,diarrhea, slow heartbeat, and stuffy nose may occur. PRECAUTIONS:Before taking reserpine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any otherallergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: current or previousdepression(especially withsuicidal thoughts/attempts), current stomach/intestinal ulcer, a certain bowel disease (ulcerative colitis), currentshocktreatments (electroconvulsive therapy-ECT).Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: history of stomach/intestinal ulcer,gallbladder disease(gallstones),liver disease.This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Avoid alcoholicbeverages.Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medication.Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially dizziness.Duringpregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.This medication passes intobreast milkand may have undesirable effects on anursinginfant. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before breast-feeding.
