Tinea Versicolor: Symptoms & Signs

Tinea versicoloris a common fungal infection of the skin. The condition is common in children and young adults. The most common areas it affects are the shoulders, back, and chest, although it can also affect areas where the skin folds.

The main signs and symptoms oftinea versicolorare discolorations of the normal skin. There are patches showing loss of color or darkening of the skin. Other associated symptoms can include

  • milditching,
  • redness, and
  • scaling of the skin.

The condition may worsen in hot, humid weather or at times when the immune system is suppressed.

Cause of tinea versicolor

The yeastMalasseziacauses tinea versicolor. The yeast that causes tinea versicolor is present on normal human skin.
